Consulting – helping you identify the next adaptive move(s)

Consulting – helping you identify the next adaptive move(s)

My consulting work is generally in support of leaders in an organisation, division or team who are seeking to understand better what is going on in a particular situation so they have an informed basis for identifying next-steps and future possibilities.

I bring a coaching style to my consulting work. As I am talking with people in the organisation I am often helping them consider alternative understandings of what is currently happening and imagine a different futures.

Central to the success of this approach is the inclusion of a second phase of engagement to test and refine any proposed ways forward. In this work I strive to ensure high levels of participation and engagement, with a view to maximising support for any proposed changes.

This work can take many forms and is co-designed with you based on your current needs. It could take the form of:

  • Consulting, design and advisory services, particularly for complex change programmes in public sector and not-for-profit organisations. I can help you find the right balance between needing a direction and a plan and remaining open, responsive and adaptable
  • ‘Shadow’ consulting, advice and coaching to change leaders and/or change project management offices engaged in change. I can work alongside you and your team to coach, advise and support you as you lead the way.
  • One off/short term consulting on specific approaches to wicked problems or complex change projects. I can help you figure out what you are dealing with and what steps to take next.
  • Coaching, advice and support to organisational development specialists. I can help you think through the contextual implication for organisation development programmes and design ways for them to be in support of key interventions or complex change.

Some projects I have  undertaken include:

  • Assisted the Board and senior leadership of a major accrediting body to understand current levels of staff engagement and design ways to ensure a sustainable and engaged workforce through a period of significant change.
  • Led a review of factors that influence the capacity of the members and staff of a major educational institution to work more effectively together.
  • Supported a national Data Strategy Group to analyse and understand the implications of a comprehensive stocktake of data sources, governance arrangements, reports and reporting regimes and national projects across the early childhood education, schooling and higher education sectors. Undertook a range of mapping exercises, identifying linkages and dis-connects as well as overlaps and gaps.
  • Provided support to a Joint Working Group of the Standing Committee on School Education and Early Childhood (SCSEEC) in the development of a nationally agreed implementation plan for the inclusion of the collection of data about school students with disability within existing jurisdictional and school-based structures and processes for collection of data.
  • Developed a new benchmark for the highest level of professional membership that incorporated a rigorous method for assessing individual knowledge, skills and capability in the planning sector.
